What is Erchonia's Low Level Laser Therapy?

Erchonia's Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a no pain, no downtime, no risk, no side-effects, and FDA market cleared (22 FDA clearances) form of photobiomodulation that uses laser light at low levels. The light is applied to the skin of the body with the intention of decreasing pain or inflammation, promoting healing of wounds, promoting healing of tissues and nerves, or for preventing tissue damage.

This is much different than the high-level lasers that are used for surgical procedures to cut and destroy unhealthy tissue. Erchonia has developed the world’s most advanced, non-invasive, non thermal laser technology, all supported by level 1 gold standard clinical evidence.  Erchonia lasers can achieve different drug-like effects without harmful side effects.

How does the Erchonia laser work?

When cells inside a tissue are stressed via disease and injury, the mitochondria (the powerhouses of the cells where energy production takes place) are hindered from completing their normal functions. This literally adds insult to injury.  â€‹The Erchonia low level laser can be used to target and stimulate these mitochondria to increase their energy production within the cell so that they can perform their essential functions.

The increase in mitochondrial energy provided by the Erchonia laser will produce signaling molecules shown to activate various beneficial biological changes such as decreasing pain, decreasing inflammation, accelerating tissue repair, improving vascular activity, increasing metabolic activity, decreasing fibrous tissue formation, improving nerve function, stimulating the immune system, accelerating wound healing, and enhancing recovery times.

Does it hurt?

No. Erchonia’s low level lasers are true non-thermal devices and cause no pain or health risks.

Is there any research on Low Level Laser Therapy?

Yes. When Dr. Sanders implemented his first Erchonia laser in in 2001, there were 326 journal articles referencing "low level laser therapy" on PubMed (which is the National Library of Medicine's online search engine). As of the end of 2024, there are now 10,728 journal articles!

Is Low Level Laser Therapy the same as red LED light therapy?

No. Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is not the same as LED (Light Emitting Diode) therapy, although both involve light-based treatments.

True lasers, as used in LLLT, produce light that is monochromatic (has a single wavelength), collimated (the light beams are parallel), and coherent (the waves of light are in phase). These qualities allow laser light to penetrate tissues more efficiently and target specific cellular processes with precision. This focused energy makes LLLT especially effective at stimulating mitochondrial activity, accelerating healing, and reducing pain.

LED devices emit non-coherent light, which means the light waves are not in phase, and the beams are more diffuse. While LED therapy can be beneficial for superficial treatments, such as enhancing skin health, it is generally less effective for deeper tissue treatments or conditions that require more focused cellular stimulation. LED lights also do not penetrate as deeply as lasers, reducing their efficacy in comparison to LLLT for conditions like chronic pain or inflammation.

In short, while both modalities use light, LLLT is more potent and precise due to its laser properties, making it more effective for a wider range of medical applications.
