Meet Dr. David Sanders

DRS2I was called into the chiropractic profession at the age of 17. I had been given a bible and decided to read it.  I got to Luke 4:40 which says “those that had various diseases, brought them to Jesus, and laying hands on each one, he healed them.”  Being spiritually naïve, I thought Jesus was using chiropractic and at that moment, I knew that I knew that I knew that I knew that I was called to be a chiropractor!

After graduating from Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, Georgia in 1990, I pursued advanced instruction in applied kinesiology, chiropractic biophysics, physical therapy, nutrition, laser therapy, and in 2001 became a Fellow with the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture.

In 2003, my brain felt moldy so I decided that I needed a new academic challenge. I saw a slick advertisement with a beautiful blend of art and brain dissection from the Carrick Institute of Graduate Studies and knew that I had to go!  I had never heard of many of the words used in the lecture (like cortical hemisphericity) and had to write them out phonetically so I could remember how to say them.   Needless to say, it felt like the mold was coming off! I was fascinated!  Outside the lecture hall, a doctor had the coolest diagnostic and therapeutic toys . . . (I mean tools) and I was massively bitten by the neurology bug!”

In 2005, I took the most grueling series of written and oral examinations in my life to become a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. I passed and joined the ranks to become a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist, a credential held by only approximately 500 clinicians worldwide!

Picture_0076c02The neurology bug has taken me to receive extensive post doctoral training in neuron theory and receptor activation, neuromuscular applications, peripheral nervous system, spinal cord, reflexogenic systems, autonomic nervous system, cerebellar cortices, the brain and its environment, cranial nerves, lobes of the brain, neurological diagnosis, sensory systems, pain, head and face pain, motor systems, peripheral nerve disorders and neurophysiologic testing, neurological imaging, clinical applications, human brain dissection, nutritional neurology, neurology of eye movements, neurobiology of mood and cognitive disorders, vestibular (balance) rehabilitation, diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders, diagnosis and treatment of ADD/ADHD, diagnosis and treatment of learning disabilities, diagnosis and treatment of behavioral disorders, and diagnosis and treatment of coma patients and patients in persistent vegetative states.

Rockerdude2I am very passionate about patient care and love working with all sorts of individuals with a variety of neurological disorders including: acute and chronic pain, dizziness, balance problems, movement disorders, tremors, dystonias, visual disturbances, memory difficulties, difficulties with concentration, peripheral nerve injuries, numbness, tingling, ADD, learning disabilities, gastrointestinal disorders, high blood pressure, depression, headaches, migraines, scoliosis, hormonal dysfunction, nausea, panic attacks, chronic fatigue, and fibromyalgia. I have been in private practice in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida since October, 1997.

In August 2007, I was nominated by my peers to be on the American Chiropractic Neurology Board pilot committee for the creation of the 2007 chiropractic neurology board exam. In September 2007, I was invited to be a member of the Vestibular Technologies clinical advisory board and am looking forward to this opportunity.

I have a beautiful wife who is a pediatric nurse practitioner and is encouraging and supportive of my neurology studies.  I also have three awesome children and a large Golden Retriever named Palmer (in honor of Dr. Daniel David Palmer who gave the first chiropractic adjustment on September 18, 1895.)   When I am not studying neurology, I enjoy hanging out with my family, playing the guitar, boating, fishing, kayaking, scuba diving, performing magic and teaching the third grade boys at church.
