The Airstar caloric stimulator is a powerful diagnostic and therapeutic instrument designed to stimulate the body’s balance organs. (It does this by gently blowing air at specific temperatures into the ear canal.)  The body’s balance organs (also known as the semicircular canals) are located on each side of the head in the inner ear and are oriented in three distinct planes. Their arrangement gives dynamic information to the nervous system about angular acceleration and our position in space.

The balance organs connect to the brainstem by the eighth cranial nerve and are powerful integrators of not only eye movements but also the stabilizing muscles of the spine.  It continues to amaze me when someone’s neck pain or back pain goes away from the proper stimulation of these balance organs!
