Q: What did the first chiropractic patient have?

A: Not back pain!

DD_Palmer5.jpgOn September 18, 1895, an incident of worldwide significance took place. A janitor named Harvey Lillard was cleaning the office of D.D. Palmer in Davenport, Iowa. Eighteen years previously, Harvey felt something “pop” in his neck.  Immediately, he lost his hearing! D.D. persuaded the janitor to allow him to look at and examine the area that “popped.” His examination revealed a vertebra that was misplaced from its normal position and a “bump” in the area. As written by his son B.J. Palmer in “The Bigness of the Fellow Within,” D.D. reasoned that “if the production of that bump produced deafness, reduction should restore healing. He pushed the bump, three days in succession; the bump was gone, and hearing was restored!”

D.D. thought he had discovered the cure for deafness. Word spread quickly and people began seeking this new cure for deafness. An interesting thing happened though. Not everyone had their hearing restored . . . some had heart conditions resolve and others had liver disorders clear up!  In fact, D.D. found that many other symptoms and problems were disappearing with this new approach to health using only his hands. Later, the term “chiropractic” was created using a combination of the Greek words chiro (meaning hand) and practico (meaning practice).

a_handprint.jpgToday, chiropractic is the leading form of natural health care. Why are so many turning to this alternative approach after trying everything else? The answer is clear. The chiropractic adjustment allows the nervous system to work properly, thus allowing the body to heal itself.  Harvey Lillard’s hearing returned through chiropractic care.  What can chiropractic do for you?
